George Bush and Little Richard

September 14th, 2006

Because there has been so much talk of Little Richard on here.. or at least he’s been brought up once (which is more than most blogs, I’m sure), I thought I’d share this hilarious Daily Show of George W’s recent 9/11 speech and the Geiko (??) commercial with our dear friend Mr. Richard.

No Love for Ron Stoppable?

September 13th, 2006

As today is acting legend Ben Savage’s 26th birthday, I decided to check out what the Wikipedians have to say…er…write about him. Some of you out there know that I am addicted to Wikipedia (not to mention Youtube, and of course hummus and raspberry/lime Poland Spring sparkling water). Anyway, this Wiki entry left me wondering if there is some tension between Savage and Will Friedle, who played his big brother for seven seasons on a perfect little vehicle known as Boy Meets World. We know that Ben is still close with Matthew Lawrence, Danielle Fishel, and Rider Strong, but what about Will? Perhaps more importantly, what about William Daniels? I’d be willing to bet that not only did Mr. Feeny deliver years of sage advice to Conelius Matthews, but William Daniels surely offered grandfatherly advice to Ben Savage. I’m hoping Daniels can get the Matthews brothers together and straighten things out. Feeny!

Big Announcement

September 12th, 2006

It’s that time again, time for a special announcement from everyone’s favorite… company. Apple. There has been quite a bit of speculation about today, nicknamed “Showtime.” (Side Note: I figured this article was an appropriate.)

Considering the company announced two new computer models just last week (an upgraded iMac and Mac Mini), it’s baffling as to why they did not wait until today to add these to the list.. it can only mean that the company already has a full docket which could be dedicated to iPod Video Units, the iTunes Movie Store, and many more fun-filled Apple products.

In other news.. nevermind.

Diatribe Issues

September 12th, 2006

I don’t know if anyone else is experiencing this, but I’ve had a lot of slowness on the site today.. They did server maintenance last night, and I think there might be some lasting effects..

Hopefully things will clear up shortly.

A Lonelygirl on the Internet

September 8th, 2006

It was only a few days ago that I first heard about , but I’ve already become fascinated by the concept. Let me explain.

In last week’s edition of , there was a piece talking about “The lonelygirl15 Phenomena” that has is this summer’s . To summarize, lonelygirl15 is a video blogger that uploads periodic posts to YouTube for the internet to watch. In her blog, she portrays herself as a normal 16 year old girl, who has typicaly teenage problems.. but something’s just not right. It’s hard to put a finger on it, but she doesn’t “seem” to be only 16 years old.

That’s where the plot begins to thicken. There are a number of clues and various tidbits of information that are slowly leaked throughout her many video posts, which takes on a “Lost”-esque appeal. Then, today, there was an article in the LA Times about the lonelygirl15 mystery. According to the LA Times:

No one has publicly come forward to lay claim to her work, but she is starting to look as connected in Hollywood as any starlet. Three lonelygirl15-obsessed amateur Web sleuths set up a sting using tracking software that appears to show that e-mails sent from a lonelygirl15 account came from inside the offices of the Beverly Hills-based talent agency Creative Artists Agency.

It’s an interesting concept that might develop, if this is in fact a movie in the making.. stemming out of a user-generated content idea, it created such a buzz and viral marketing effect, that it seems like a clever way to promote a new product or film.. though, it certainly does blur the lines between advertising and content.. it’ll be interesting to see what happens with our friend Lonelygirl15..

Like Putting a Family Member in Storage

September 7th, 2006

Today is the last full day that I will get to enjoy my favorite chair for quite some time. As one of the biggest concessions to married life so far, I have to pack up Old Softie for an unknown period of time (rather than sell it on Craigslist, I brokered a deal with Swedish Girl, in which I get to store it until such time as we have a big enough place for me to use it in a den, office, or other man cave that will not be offensive to her eyes and sense of decor on a daily basis). New furniture is coming in and there is not enough room in our “cozy” apartment for Old Softie.

I’m excited at the change, but can’t help feeling like I’m throwing a sheet over grandpa and locking him in the storage unit (which, by the way, is perilously close to classic sit-com avalanche status each time I open the door). Afterall, I still vividly remember the day my mom bought this gorgeous leather reclining easy chair as a surprise birthday gift for my dad. That was at least 20 years ago, but this chair has aged better than Jaclyn Smith. Dear old Dad logged countless hours of in-front-of-the-TV nap time in this chair before it was given to me to become the focal point of my tiny first post-college living room. I’ve had it for seven years now and it’s pretty much the only thing in my apartment that is a direct link to my childhood. I do have those 20+ year-old socks that never age, but I don’t wear those every day. I do, however, sit in and enjoy Old Softie every day. My family has sat in it, dozens of relatives and friends have sat in it (some of them not with us anymore), old girlfriends have sat in, old roommates have sat in it (some of them I wish were not with us anymore), four U.S. presidents have sat in it.

Okay, I lied about the last part. Swedish Girl will be out with friends this evening and the Red Sox aren’t playing, so Old Softie and I will have the alone time we need. And before the new furniture arrives to take its place tomorrow, I’ll have to throw a sheet over Old Softie to spare it that indignance.

Fun with Google

September 5th, 2006

One of the most addictive games on the web now comes from Google as well. It’s called , and the object is quite simple. Log in, and pair up with another anonymous player.

Then when you’ve been paired up, images will begin to appear. The object of the game is to “tag” or identify the image using the same word as your partner in order to score points. It’s an extremely addictive and fun game, that both Miss Possible and I have found quite enjoyable.

The “game” helps improve Google’s ability to add metadata to images, allowing them to be more accurate with image searches. My only complaint is that you’re unable to choose who your partner is. Often, due to my mad typing skillz, I’ll be paired up with someone who types 5 wpm. So, I’ll have listed 5-7 words, while my partner has only guess once or twice.

Check it out!
