Google named #1

January 8th, 2007

How cool is this? I work for Fortune’s #1 Company to Work For in 2006. I can even be seen in this pic See that clump of yellow shirts in the upper-right-ish area of the group.. I’m one of the people in yellow. There’s some great pieces and galleries in the article. I recommend taking the Google Quiz. I hate to admit that even I got one wrong. The “Why Google is #1″ video is pretty cool too!

Time to run.. my breakfast is calling… How Exciting!

Amusing

Check out this Flash game:

It’s highly amusing and frustrating at the same time.

The site is in French, but no matter. Just click on the JOUER link and you’ll get the hang of the game in no time.

Good luck and let me know what you think!

My best time was 22 seconds. I’m sure someone else can do better. Post your best time!

My Camera is Back!

January 4th, 2007

My two happy babies It feels like it’s been forever, but I have to give Canon a hand. This past June, just after Bonnaroo, I managed to drop my Canon PowerShot SD400 and break the LCD screen. It was digitally cracked (read: didn’t work and looked like I dropped it).

After waiting for the best time I take it in for repairs, I contacted Canon earlier this month and they said that I can send it in and have it repaired if it’s still under warranty as long as it was not caused by being dropped or immersion in water. It took about 2 weeks, but they repaired it free of charge and I just got it back today. I have to applaud their customer service, warranty repair and overall product.

Not only do I have a digital camera again, but I’ve got one that is fully functional and clean. It’s been six months since I’ve been able to view the pictures on my LCD screen. But now that I’ve got it back, I’m very happy. This was the first photo I took.

Photos!

Ok folks.. thanks to the for WordPress, I was able to seamlessly integrate my Flickr galleries into The Diatribe. While it does get a little messier if you want to order prints, it’s not the end of the world — it’s an easier interface overall.

Personally, I think I’m over hard copies of photos anyway.. with the exception of the rare few that you need to put in frames around your house. Photos are meant for sharing experiences and good times, right?. When you have prints, you invite friends and family to gather around and look at the photos of your trip to [insert cool place here]. Isn’t that the same thing as having them online and sharing them virtually? Then your friend/family can see them from wherever they are, at their convenience.

As long as you have a sturdy backup of your photos, you can order prints whenever you want (to frame, etc.) and you have them always.

Back to the story at hand, though.. clicking the photos link in the nav or going to you will be able to easily browse our latest Flickr photos. This includes the newest gallery of . Be sure to check them out!

A Law & Order New Year

January 2nd, 2007

Another New Years has come and gone. Welcome to 2007. I don’t have any resolutions. I usually don’t.
We really weren’t able to do much this year as we can’t leave Bogart for more than a few hours at a time. MP and I did end up going over to Friday’s for a ‘nice’ dinner prior to ringing in the New Year.

What was most exciting about this past weekend, though, was the Law & Order marathons that were on TNT and USA. Saturday was Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Sunday was Law & Order: SVU (our favorite). and yesterday was the original Law & Order — with a smattering of CSI: Miami’s thrown in for good measure.

Speaking of CSI: Miami.. we had never really watched it until this past weekend. With nothing else to watch late yesterday afternoon, we opted to throw on one of these spin offs to check it out. I have to say that the show is much better than CSI: New York, but it doesn’t compare to the original CSI. My major gripe about the show is that that Horatio drives me batty. Besides being just plain creepy, the writers have given him a quirk where he will repeat the name of the person he’s talking to several times in the same conversation. For instance:

“Eric, Do you see this over here?”
“Yes, I plan on taking it to the Lab, Eric.”
“Thank you for your help, Eric. I really appreciate it.”

Obviously this is only one side of the conversation and it’s an excessive example, but literally in 30 seconds of dialog, he will say the character’s name 3-4 times. It’s obnoxious. It’s almost enough to prevent me from watching the show. CSI: Miami is obviously not my first choice when it comes to crime drama’s.. but it’s probably 5th or 6th at this point.

As you can probably tell, we had a very productive weekend.
