One giant collaborative diatribe

Fourteen and a half

As of this writing, the Red Sox are currently leading the American League East by 11.5 games over the second place Baltimore Orioles, though this is not the highlight of the standings box. For all intents and purposes, Orioles could be 1 game out of first place, and yet I’d still have a sense of satistfaction when I look at the standings.

For the first time since May 29, 1984, the Yankees are 14.5 games out of first place. Following the news and stories surrounding the poor start the Yankees have faced this year is just as exciting as the great start the Red Sox have had. Though, despite being ahead of the Yankees by 15 games in the Win Column, I still can’t seem to shake that they have the opportunity to come back. They did it in 1978.. My only hope is that 2007 will be different.

I anxiously await the headline atop the New York Times ‘Joe Torre Fired” — but I may need to wait until the end of the season. I write this post as a moment in history. A statement of fact that on May 30, 2007 — the Yankees are now officially 14.5 games out of first place. What will happen in the last four months of the seasons is completely up-for-grabs, but for this moment.. let’s relish in the spotlight.

Man, why couldn’t this have happened last year — when I was living in Hoboken. A giant smile would have come across my face each time I walked by the Yankee Laundromat .

Why must we always look to blame poor Torre. He’s just a nice old man who has to deal with a lot of other people trying to run his dugout. Instead let us take a look at A-Rod…the veritible albatrosse hanging over the famed pinstripes. Seriously…cheating on his wife with the buxum blond in Toronto? What was he thinking getting caught…this certainly will not make him anymore popular in NYC.

I’d be happy to blame Rodriguez.. I mean, anyone with the nickname “a rod” isn’t probably the best person to nominate as chairman of the Family Values committee. Personally, I’d rather see them fire Torre. Reason being, I know that he’s the glue that’s holding the team together.. By firing him, Cashman would be making the worst mistake of his career.

    And that makes me happy.

  3. 14.5 games. Word. I love reading all the New York Daily News, New York Post and others articles on how horribly BAD it is for the Yankees right now. And all of the Boston Globe, Herald and ProJo articles about how GOOD it is for the Red Sox right now. Youk has a 20 game hitting streak.. Little DUSTIN PEDROIA has a 10 game hitting streak and a ~.300 avg!! Way to go little fella.. Our beloved Red Sox are finally showing their true grit that we’ve been hoping to have back since after the Fall of 2004. Roger Clemens? Pssssh.. they need more than Roger Clemens to come out of this one! An article discussing the value of Clemens stated he could earn them four more wins throughout the entire year. Four more wins than if they didn’t have him or four wins they otherwise would not have gotten.. If they come within 4 games of the Red Sox by the end of the year, they might have gotten what they paid for. 4 Games. They bought Clemens for 4 Wins. Right now they need about 10 more than that.
