There’s nothing better than a little Patriots Football on a Sunday night. Especially when the Patriots obliterate the Buffalo Bills 56 – 10 (as it stands now in the Fourth Quarter).
While the weekend wasn’t extraordinary, we did manage to mail out the Save The Dates, update my Dad’s web site, beat ‘Beautiful Katamari,’ and even re-architect the back end of The Diatribe, so it’s more easily upgradeable.
So, while I didn’t really leave the house to do much more than go grocery shopping once or twice, it was an incredibly productive weekend.
So what went into the backend of the site? Or what did you change..

Well, I was running WordPress 2.0.3, and the latest version was 2.3.1. In the past when I upgraded to 2.0, 2.0.1, etc.. I had to go in copy all of the new files, save the old ones and make sure nothing was over-written that wasn’t suppose to. It was a time consuming process that was always the bane of my existence.
The hosting provider that I work with, dreamhost, allows for “one click installs” which gives you the option to easily update WordPress with the click of a button (syncing the right files, leaving anything customized to stay as-is).. and I’ve done that with some of my other sites — and was so much easier.
So I just went in, deleted the site, installed the one click upgrade, and re-implemented everything (skins, plugins, customization of scripts, etc.).
Time consuming up front, but will pay off in the end.
