Upgrade Time

June 17th, 2008

What’s that ratty old thing you’re surfing the web with, there? Is that Firefox 2.0? Is that Internet Explorer? I think it’s time to upgrade and make some history.

Today marks the . The newest Mozilla-based web browser is available for public download today and I highly recommend upgrading. It’s significantly faster than most other browsers (especially for a PC) and it comes with a bunch of great new features.

I’ve been using it for about a month now and think it’s absolutely fantastic! But, like Lavar Burton, you don’t need to take my word for it — WebMonkey: Why you should Download Firefox 3 Right Now!.

License Plates

June 15th, 2008

I was following this pickup truck on my way home from the grocery store, completely baffled by his license plate. If anyone can figure out what it means, I’ll buy you a drink.

The plate read:
HRZABWT

For what it’s worth, there was a Kansas Jayhawks License Plate Holder — if that provides any hints. Trying to decode it reminds me of the television game show of the 1980′s Bumper Stumpers on the USA Network.

Taking on Five Year Olds

February 1st, 2008

At work, when we do introductions in meetings and such, we often have a funny or amusing question that goes along with the standard name, how long you’ve been there, and what you do.. One of my favorites has always been “How many five year olds could you take in a fight” — to which I always answered about 10 – 12.. Well, now I know the real answer:

20

Wimps

December 12th, 2007

Man, we’ve really lost our thick skin as we head into the winter season. It’s been “cold” out here for about 3 weeks or so now, and we’re freezing. Now, let me clarify what I mean by cold. It’s currently about 49 degrees here — with a low tonight going down to 36.

50 Degrees — and we’re bundled up like ski bunnies. I guess it takes just about a year for your body to adjust to a new climate. Unfortunately, I’m headed back to Boston next week on business just in time to get hit with another storm hitting the Northeast.

I might survive for the three days that I’ll be visiting the Boston Google Office, but — the two weeks that I’ll be out there for holiday break — is going to be C-O-L-D. We’ll be excited to come back to the ‘balmy’ California weather. Heck, in Boston, 50 degrees is shorts weather after a cold winter.

I guess it’s all relative. Anyway, time for me to get my hat, scarf, gloves, and jacket — to take the dog out for a walk. BRRR.

Wii are addicted

May 7th, 2007

That’s right, yesterday I bit the bullet and went out and bought a . I’ve wanted one for quite some time, but they’re still nearly impossible to find out here on the west coast. I waited in line for about an hour at my local Toys R Us store yesterday morning at 9am, and received the 22nd of 24 Wii’s the store received that day. A few more minutes, and I may not have been so lucky.

In any event, let me say, that the game system lives up to the hype. Miss Possible and I spent nearly the entire day yesterday playing Wii Sports. We created out and faced off in every game (including Boxing), but Bowling & Tennis are by far our favorites thus far.

We’ve yet to figure out the “flick of the wrist thing” and needed to move the ottoman & coffee table out of the way in order to jump onto the Tennis Court yesterday afternoon. I know that I’m a little stiff this morning from the action and Miss Possible felt sore last night.. I guess that shows how out of shape we are.

But, the Wii is a lot of fun. The graphics aren’t even a quarter as good as that of the 360 or the new Playstaion 3.. but I’ve never had so much fun playing a video game. I’m looking forward to some of the other games including Zelda or Super Paper Mario. Leave it to Nintendo, to come up with something so fun and exciting as the Wii.
